Christianity

It succeeds when it treats Jesus as an ideal; it fails when it makes him an idol. The business of surrendering one’s spiritual sovereignty to another person is idolatry. Worshipping a human being as a God is more sophisticated than worshipping animals or objects, but it’s still idolatry.

Jesus was an exceptionally talented messenger and guide - exceptional enough to deserve a civilization. But this blood-soaked Roman civilization is not worthy of him.
